Why be and official?

Every parent starts somewhere in Little Athletics, as a helper on a site, a spotter, a recorder or as a timekeeper. For most parents the thought of being an Official is a daunting concept. Normally there is a Key Official who is happy to help those new parents understand the basics of each site and also impart some of this knowledge.

Completing a Level D exam in an event is like getting a head start in this respect because it allows parents to get an understanding of the basic rules of an event before they go out to site, and in that way help them understand why a throw or jump is not valid or why an athlete was disqualified.

It is also a great way to demonstrate to their own children that they are interested and supportive of their chosen sport.

Level D & C Officials Exams

Little Athletics Officials are graded into four levels – D Grade up to A Grade. The D Grade is the starting level and consists of an open book multiple choice exam. C grade also consists of an open book multiple choice exam with the added requirement that the Officer of Officials needs to sign off on the exam to say that the person has successfully completed a practical demonstration which shows that they understand the rules of that particular event.

Where possible all Site Key Officials will be asked to successfully complete the D Grade exam for that event and will be encouraged to also complete the C Grade exam. The exams and answer sheets are located below with the reference material. Please return the completed answer sheet(s) to the Officer of Officials or Centre Secretary.
